A little over 4 years ago, the email marketing agency MAILODY (back then still a sole proprietorship) was founded. From the very beginning, we decided against the classic agency model and focused on our core competency: email, email, email. As a pure email marketing agency, we get to support some of the most exciting e-commerce projects in the DACH region and power them with a dedicated email marketing strategy. The main advantages of email marketing

Even though email marketing has been declared dead more than once, it's more relevant than ever. While years ago campaigns were simply blasted to the whole email list, today there are countless ways to personalize the channel and get the most out of targeted email marketing.

First profit comes before revenue with a good email marketing service. While performance or influencer marketing primarily focuses on new customer acquisition, pure email marketing sits a few funnel steps further back in the customer journey. The big advantage, though: you don't need any additional ad budget. So not only revenue but especially profit can rise dramatically, and costs don't scale linearly with the size of the shop.

For all Shopify users, it's important to note that the two tools are no longer natively integrable, which has made tracking significantly harder.

Starting at $ 9.99/month, Mailchimp can be used for your email marketing strategy — a good fit to get started with email marketing. A simple solution for companies looking for a straightforward entry into email marketing. Especially optimal for smaller companies that aren't yet deep into topics like segmentation, automations, or data analysis.

Klaviyo

When we started with Klaviyo over 4 years ago as an email marketing agency, the tool was still in its early days. Today, it's already one of the most recognized CRM tools for online shops in the US, and in the DACH region it's also increasingly pushing to the top of email marketing. Shop systems like Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, and many more can be connected to Klaviyo directly via one-click integration.

Starting at $ 20.00/month, Klaviyo suits all company sizes in email marketing. Klaviyo puts most of its resources into e-commerce, which is why companies benefit the most. Ideal for companies generating up to mid 8-figure annual revenue that want to professionalize their CRM. Pricing scales with contact size, and there are no hidden costs with Klaviyo.

Emarsys

Emarsys is an SAP company and positions itself clearly as a cross-channel CRM platform across email, push, brick-and-mortar retail, and more. Brands like Gymshark, Amorelie, and many others rely on this platform for email marketing.

From our perspective as an email marketing agency, Emarsys is primarily worthwhile for larger companies that have the capacity to use the full feature set. The tool is especially strong in personalization and also covers additional features like push notifications.

Alongside email campaigns, you should also consider and evaluate other CRM channels for your online shop:

SMS

Similar to email campaigns, SMS campaigns can be sent to end customers as long as the phone number is available and the customer has given proper consent. Compared to emails, SMS has an average open rate of over 90%. Some email marketing tools include this feature as an add-on, or you can use tools like SMS Bump.

Push Notification

Push notifications aren't only used in apps but also on websites. Customers can subscribe with a single click and then receive push notifications. We recommend using this sparingly and only for special sale events or product launches.

Print Campaigns

While digitalization has advanced in recent years and email marketing remains important, we've also had great results with print campaigns. You can build targeted segments and reach them with personalized postcards, letters, or flyers.

Referral / Loyalty Tool

When it comes to customer loyalty, tools like smile.io or talkable are well suited to building your own referral / loyalty program. A referral tool means: existing customers are incentivized with, e.g., a voucher or a free product to recommend your online shop to friends & acquaintances. The referred customers then also receive a voucher. A loyalty tool works like the stamp card at the bakery in the morning — with point systems implemented online.
